An Immersive VR Treadmill Alternative
We weren’t satisfied with existing VR treadmill solutions; most break the bank, and affordable solutions only allow you to march in place. That’s why we’ve created Reality Runner - using our treadmill sensor and just a few magnets, you can convert any belt-based manual treadmills into an immersive VR experience.
An affordable locomotion solution
Take real steps in game. No special shoes, no marching in place. Our sensor uses the Hall effect to convert your treadmill movement to in game movement. It’s a cost-effective DIY-friendly alternative to VR locomotion without sacrificing immersion.
Reality Runner V2 is here!
We’re excited to release the latest version of the Reality Runner Treadmill Sensor! New features include:
Our ultra sensitive automotive grade hall effect sensor improves resonsiveness, increases speed resolution and adds support for reverse movement
The upgraded processor improves speed tracking, reduces latency, and adds support for wired USB connections
The OLED screen displays system information and allows basic setting configuration for an improved setup experience out of the box
We’ve built a community development API available for tinkerers to develop their own custom applications around their treadmill sensor! Download here
Meet Peak Game Compatibility.
Our SteamVR driver and App give you plug-and-play compatibility with any VR game on Steam. For modded flat-screen titles that still need a gamepad, our virtual gamepad mode with merging fills the gap. And for multiplayer shooters with heavy anti-cheat? Our hardware driven XInput mode handles it natively. One sensor, every game.
User Configurability
Whether you’re using our Windows App or Web interface, Reality Runner puts you in full control. Dial in your speed curve, sprint triggers, and response profile for every game in your library. Set your weight, treadmill incline, and belt specs for accurate calorie and distance tracking across every session, with lifetime stats to watch your progress add up.

FAQs
-
The Reality Runner treadmill sensor should be paired with a manual treadmill. These treadmills only move when you walk on them allowing the sensor to measure and convert your movement speed. If you already have one of these, great! If not, rest assured manual treadmills can be found used on local marketplaces (like Facebook) for $50-$100 depending on your location. You can also find them new online (like Amazon) for a bit more- here’s one we found online (link).
Make sure to check the treadmill you have is compatible by reviewing the initial setup guide under treadmill assembly here (link). A magnet wheel will need to be attached to a flywheel that spins whenever the treadmill is in use.

We have lowered the input latency to ~30 ms. We have found this to be the least noticeable amount of latency while preserving accuracy.

Walking on a treadmill in VR takes some getting used to, however we’ve found most people learn quickly. Using head-relative locomotion in game helps quite a lot, however your controller joystick may still be used as need simultaneously with the treadmill sensor
